Apelin-12, a member of the apelin family, is a ligand of the human orphan G protein-coupled receptor (APJ).Apelin/APJ could diminish HG-induced ROS formation and apoptosis in endothelial cell. Apelin-12, one of the most potent short peptide substances of Apelin, has a protective effect on cardiovascular damage, corresponds to the oxidative stress.Apelin-12 in obesity-related clinical and biochemical markers and in MetS in obese-DS and obese-control. Serum apelin-12 is a potential diagnostic biomarker for MetS with greater performance in obese-DS than obese-control raising its potential for clinical and therapeutic applications.
